Characteristics and Application of Vacuum Capacitor

Characteristics and Application of Vacuum Capacitor

1. What is a vacuum capacitor?

As the name implies, vacuum capacitor is a capacitor with vacuum as its medium. The electrodes of this capacitor are a group of concentric cylindrical electrodes, which are formed by a set of high-conductivity oxygen-free copper strips extending one by one through a set of high-precision dies, and sealed in a vacuum container. Therefore, its performance is stable and reliable, and it is not easy to produce arc, corona and other phenomena.

2. Characteristics of Vacuum Capacitors

Compared with other dielectric capacitors, vacuum capacitors have the characteristics of high voltage resistance, small volume, low loss, stable performance and reliability. The following aspects are unique:

Rated Voltage - Due to the high insulation strength of vacuum, dust-proof pollution, moisture-proof and other characteristics, vacuum capacitors have a large rated voltage value for a certain size and capacity. The height can reach hundreds of thousands of volts.

Low loss, high rated current - because capacitors use vacuum dielectrics and low loss insulating enclosures and oxygen-free copper electrode structure, in general convective cooling conditions, even at high frequencies, can also pass through a large radio frequency current. If a special water cooling structure is used, the radio frequency current can reach thousands of amperes.

Space savings - Vacuum capacitors occupy the smallest space for a given capacitance and rated voltage.

The ratio of maximum capacity to minimum capacity is as high as 150:1. It can be used from several skin methods to several thousand skin methods and becomes an ideal element for wide tuning range.

For overvoltage, it has self-healing ability - vacuum capacitor can withstand instantaneous overvoltage, while for other capacitors, it will cause permanent damage.

High altitude working capacity - vacuum sealing can make vacuum capacitor work in high altitude area without reducing its characteristics.

3. Applications of Vacuum Capacitors

1) Broadcasting communication equipment: Vacuum capacitors are used as tuning, coupling, filtering, neutralization and DC isolation components in medium-wave, short-wave and ultra-short-wave transmitters.

2) Semiconductor manufacturing equipment: deposition and etching equipment for plasma

3) High Frequency Industrial Equipment: Used for High Frequency Medium Heating and Welding, etc.

4) Medical devices: medical analyzers and therapeutic instruments, etc.

5) High Energy Physics: High Energy Particle Accelerator, etc.

6) Power equipment: testing equipment for dielectric loss
